Senator George Maziarz is proud to announce that Governor David A. Paterson has signed Senate Bill 8134-B into law. This legislation, sponsored by Senator Maziarz, will create a green residential building grant program to encourage owners of new and older homes to complete construction or renovation projects consistent with green building standards established by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).“Many homeowners want to make their homes more energy efficient,” Senator Maziarz said, “but having the wherewithal to make improvements can sometimes be a challenge. This program will help provide resources to homeowners that can ultimately lower energy costs and help the environment at the same time.”Both chambers of the Legislature passed Senator Maziarz’ bill unanimously in June.“Stimulating investment and encouraging the use of new technologies is the direction we need to be heading in,” Senator Maziarz added. The grant program will be developed and administered by NYSERDA, which will determine the eligibility standards, application procedures, and award levels. Funding for the grant program will not impact the state budget because the costs will be covered by revenues collected by NYSERDA.
